| June 11, 2006 6:30 p.m. - Savannah is restless and panting. She has begun nesting in her whelping area next to my bed and keeps me up all night. June 12, 2006 5:45 a.m. - the first little Tri-Colour girl arrives, weighing in at 7 oz. Healthy, strong and HUNGRY! 6:09 a.m. - next comes a little Tri-Colour boy, weighing 5.8 oz. He was tiny, but strong, taking a deep first breath. His coloring is beautiful - well-broken up patches on a pearly white background. 7:42 a.m. - another little Tri-Colour boy is born who is struggling to breath. His breathing is crackly and his chest sounds filled with fluid. He is not interested in nursing yet! He is beautiful, with the perfect thumbprint on the top of his little head. He weighs 7 oz. Sadly, he goes to heaven while I'm holding him on June 13th at 1:10 p.m. 10:02 a.m. - my third Tri-Colour little boy enters the world, covered in a blanket of shiny black and screaming for his mommy! He weighs 6.5 oz. 12:15 p.m. - lastly, out comes Savannah's second Tri-Colour little girl, weighing 6.3 oz. She is healthy and happy to be warmed by her mommy. Whelping/birthing can be bittersweet....when I lose one, which doesn't happen often, it takes some of the life out of me too. The grief I feel never lessens. I move on though, focusing on the little lives that are strong and healthy, knowing they will make me proud as they grow and mature. |
